Clifford V. Barnett, 88 of Atwell, WV went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Welch Community Hospital in Welch, WV. Born May 23, 1927 at Bartley, WV, he was a son of the late Homer and Ardath Spears Barnett. He was a US Army Veteran of WW II stationed in Austria, France, and Germany. Clifford was a member of the Atwell Church of God. He was a retired coal miner, who worked at Island Creek and was a member of the UMWA. He loved gardening, riding four wheelers, and time with his grandchildren. The days of his declining health were made better by the kind and compassionate care given by the staff of Golden Harvest Long Term Care of Welch, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Oma Honaker Barnett; daughter, Judith Carol Jones; an infant son; grandson, Clifford V. Barnett, III; brother, William Barnett; sisters, Norma “Peggy” Serra and Pauline Buchanan.

Survivors include sons, Clifford V. Barnett, Jr. and wife, Michele of Sherrill’s Ford, NC and James D. Barnett and wife, Layla of Atwell, WV; daughter, Nancy Altizer and companion, Max Huffman of Florida; sisters, Joyce Thomas of Bartley, WV and Judy Maynard of Chesterfield, VA; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with Pastor Joey Proffitt officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA where military graveside rites will be conducted by members of Barns Beavers VFW Post #7136 of Tazewell, VA and Virginia National Guard Honor Team of Gate City, VA The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 PM Wednesday evening.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, the American Diabetes Foundation, or a favorite charity.
