Mildred “Milly” Lucille Lombard Rausch, 90, died at home on December 24, 2015, in the loving care of her family. She was a very kind, gentle, and gracious woman of great faith, compassionate, independent, a leader by example, positive in her attitude toward life, always putting others before herself, and most importantly devoted to her family. She was a skilled and prolific seamstress who made her own and children’s clothing as well as many gifts for her family. With loving attention to detail, her hostess skills made birthday and holiday celebrations memorable. She enjoyed creative time in her kitchen and treated her family to wonderful sour cream coffeecakes, cheesecakes and ginger cookies, as well as baking and donating her most delicious toasted pecan pies to church fundraisers. Shopping was an art, especially picking up bargains, the love of which she never lost. She had planned, shopped and baked for the annual family Christmas evening gathering at her home.

Mildred was born March 17, 1925, the first of five children born to Roy Edgar and Alice Mae Ellis Lombard at Maple View Farm in Darby Township, Madison County, Ohio. Mildred attended grade school at Chuckery Special School, and was a member of the last eighth grade class when it closed in 1938. In 1942 she graduated with the fourth senior class from Chuckery Darby High School, and served as president of her class. After graduation she lived with an aunt and uncle in Columbus and worked as a legal secretary.

On October 17, 1943, Mildred married her high school sweetheart Wallace “Wally” George Rausch and began housekeeping in a house on the same lot in Sodom where she lived the remainder of her life. Milly accompanied Wally to the east coast during his naval training, working when possible at the naval stations and the Red Feather Agency. When Wally shipped out, she returned home and began working for the Farmers Home Administration in the basement level of the Marysville Post Office, and when that office closed, at the London office. She left the work force for the tasks that brought her the most joy in life: supporting her husband in his work both on and off the farm, rearing her family, and later sharing her abundant love with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mildred was a baptized member of the Plain City Methodist Church and in 1944 was confirmed as an adult at St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aid/LWML. She was a 1946 charter member of the Ivory Chandler Circle of the Kings Daughters and 69-year-member of the Plain City Chapter of the D.A.R. Having been an active 4-H member herself, she was inspired to co-found the Sunshine Sewing and Serving Society 4-H Club, a 1970 census worker, and for many years, along with Wally, was a Mobile Meals volunteer. For the past 24 years she happily participated in the YMCA aqua aerobics classes. She and Wally enjoyed traveling, spending 20 years of winter vacations in Florida and over 30 years in Michigan at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes where she was the organizing force behind meal planning for the family and friends vacations. She was a faithful alumnus of Chuckery Darby, organizing and/or hosting class reunions throughout the years. She enjoyed following her grandchildren’s athletic and musical activities, and cherished the weekly visits from her great-grandchildren who always knew where to find the well-supplied treat basket.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 64 years, Wallace Rausch, in 2007; a brother and sister-in-law Jack and Kay Lombard; sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Jay Heflin, brothers-in-law Richard Johnson, Bruce Browand, and James Howell, parents-in-law Walter and Charlotte Fox Rausch, sister-in-law Leona Rausch (Martin) Krohn and sister-in-law Burnette Rausch (Herbert) Scheiderer.

She is survived by her four children Nina (David) Boerger, Joy (Larry) Ballard, Wanda DuPuis, and Doyle (Barb) Rausch; seven grandchildren Allison (Todd) Gorton, Adam (Sarah Wiley) Boerger, Jared (Erin) Archer, Jacob (Katie) Archer, Edward DuPuis, Jessica (Levi Stephens) DuPuis, Derrick DuPuis; seven great-grandchildren Grace and Blake Gorton, Barrett Boerger, Isaiah Archer, Jaiden, Kalen, and Keagan Archer; step-grandchildren Ariana Lowe (Casey) Myers, Trevor (Angela) Lowe, Michelle Archer (Les) Clayton, Teressa Archer (Randy) Snedeger; and step-great-grandchildren Harper and Max Myers, Gunnar Lowe, Talmon, Victoria, and Nicole Clayton, Nathan Snedegar; sisters Colleen Johnson of Wakeman, Ohio, and Carole Browand Howell recently of Midlothian, Virginia; as well as nieces, nephews, many special friends, and her cherished church family.

Calling hours will be held Monday from 4-8 p.m. at Mannasmith Funeral Home, and on Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church for one hour preceding the 11 a.m. service with Pastor Jack Heino officiating. A committal service will take place immediately following at St. John’s cemetery. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Following the brief service at the cemetery, a time of fellowship, remembrance and lunch will be held at The Lodge on Fladt Road

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorials to the St. John’s Organ Fund, Loving Care Hospice, or charity of choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mannasmithfuneralhome.com.
