Henry was an original “mill hill kid”. He graduated from Lexington High School and served in the Army for two years. Following his military service Henry worked for Winn-Dixie in many capacities. He was a mentor and offered many young people their first job experience. He retired from the SC Dept. of Corrections as a Commissary/Canteen Manager working at Watkins Pre-Release for many years. Henry was a very kind, simple man, never known to deliberately hurt anyone in his entire life. He loved his Atlanta Falcons and had the joy of taking many friends of his children to their first professional football game. He was also fascinated with anything associated with the Titanic. He could often be found driving his beloved Mustang and if the top was down, it was very good day. He fought an enormously difficult cancer/dialysis battle with grace, determination, humor and faith. Those who suffer his loss will remember him for his loyalty, kindness, generosity, love and his loud and crazy laugh.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife: Susan Steele; daughter: Lindsay Steele Feary (CT) of Gilbert, SC; son: J. Taylor Steele (Kelli) of Gilbert, SC and the love of his life, Grandpa’s Baby Girl: Addison Lily Feary; aunts: Rose Hendrix and Lydia Lindler; many cousins, in-laws, special friends: Len and Susan McDaniel; his loyal mutt: Max; and a host of friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents, his in-laws Bill and Wanda Biermeier of Elroy, Wisconsin, aunts and uncles. Services will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 4 PM in the chapel at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington, South Carolina.
