Mary Long Carteret, age 93, of Bolivia, NC passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Dosher Nursing Center. She was surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born in Brunswick County on January 10, 1923 the daughter of the late William R. Long and Winnie Caison Long and was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Leo Carteret, her infant son William Carteret, three brothers: Elmer Long, Homer Long, Wilson Long and Marshall Long, and two sisters Ava Smith and Loretta Milligan.
Mary was a resident of Dosher Nursing Center for almost six years where she was lovingly known as the "Warden "and more affectionately, "Grandma." Her wheel chair traveled the hallways continually, and speaking her mind was a quality the staff came to know and love.
The most important thing in Mary's life has always been her personal relationship with Jesus as her Savior. Her faith was her foundation and her strength. She was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church in Bolivia.
The devotion she had to her family was immeasurable. Her husband, children and grandchildren were the loves of her life after the Lord. She was the true model of what a mother should be.
Surviving are three sons, Ray Carteret and wife Jeanne of Boiling Spring Lakes; Steve Carteret and wife Shirley and Sam Carteret all of Bolivia, NC; five grandchildren: Renee Ward of Southport, Michelle McNeill of Boiling Spring Lakes, Jennifer Fritchey of Bolivia, Mary Ellen Cook of Goldsboro and Samantha Spencer of Bolivia: eight great grandchildren, Brittany, Alyssa, Cassie, Brandan, Miranda, Christopher, Garrett and Logan.
A celebration of her life will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday December 29, 2015 at Peacock Newnam-White Funeral Service Chapel.
Entombment will follow in Cape Fear Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
