James, known as "Jim" or "Poppa," loved coin collecting, genealogy and antique clocks. Jim was dedicated to his family, friends and country spending nearly 24 years serving in the U.S. Army. During his military service, Jim distinguished himself by receiving two Bronze Stars and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Ruth, Mary and Tommy.
Survivors: Wife, Katherine Sue Shelton McMurray; son, James Alford McMurray Jr.; grandsons, Christopher and Travis; granddaughter, Katherine. Jim is also survived by sister, Helen; brother, George; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
