EXPRESSMAN KILLED IN CLEANING GUN

Another fatal shotgun accident occurred at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon, when Charles H. Virden, aged 40, an expressman, was killed by the discharge of a weapon which he was cleaning.

Virden was seated in the kitchen of his home, 806 Park Avenue. His aged father, William Virden, was also in the room. Virden secured the shotgun and was atempting to extract the shells, prepatory to cleaning the barrel, when it was discharged.

The charge entered his abdomen and death resulted in a few minutes. His father gave the alarm to neighbors who hurried to the scene, but could render no aid. Mrs. Virden was absent from home when the accident occurred. Besides the deceased's father, the widow is the only survivor. Virden had lived here many years.
