Author of THE DAVIS FAMILIES OF THE SAVANNAH RIVER VALLEY (Hobby Press, 1978) LDS 6100901; edited and revised by Rev. Lamar Davis.

Co-Author of The Tates of the South by Ethel S. Updike and several other family histories compiled by her sister Mrs. Updike.
Before her death, she stated that she had also written a book on the Hall genealogy. Also that both her parents were cousins through the Halls and Tates.

She was a daughter of William Dolphus Speer and Laura Watson Speer, granddaughter of Franklin Asberry Speer and Amelia Ann Hall, great-granddaughter of Sims Speer and Mary Oglesby Speer, Joseph Richard Hall and Rhoda Tate Hall, great-great-granddaughter of William David Tate and Emily Millea Davis Tate.

Wife of Ted Mentzel.
Longtime resident of Phoenix, Arizona, and Ingleside, California.

She first married and divorced before 1940.
