Sylvester Wayne Alexander was born October 28, 1947 in Pawnee, OK to George & Cozette Alexander. He was raised in Wellington KS, where he graduated WHS in 1965. After a twenty year career with BNSF railroad, he attended Cowley County Community College, become a CNC machinist, and worked at Precision Machine.
He married Cecilia Booth, who bore him two sons, Aaron Clayton & Tory Allen Alexander. On July 6, 1987, he married Deborah Ann Howard (Rice), and together they spent the next 28 years raising their blended family along with her son Frank.
Music was always important to Sylvester, and today we will be celebrating and remembering him with some of his favorites. He had two main hobbies: Bar-B-Q and Dominos. Anyone who ever tried him at either quickly found out he was a master at both.
Above all these things however were his family and friends. He was a dedicated husband, and an especially devoted father. He took an active role in raising three happy, educated, respectful well-adjusted young men, and then proudly watched as they carry on the tradition with the grandkids. Because of Sylvester, neither the kids nor grandkids ever saw a daycare center. He was an especially important Grandpa to his granddaughter Jazmine, who we had the privilege to help raise. We often laughed as we reminisced over teaching her her colors with M&M's.
Sylvester passed Saturday morning May 30th after battling numerous health issues, yet even in death was thinking of others. As an organ donor, they will be helped by his generosity as well.
Sylvester is survived by his wife Deborah, three sons: Aaron, Tory & his wife Rachel, and Frank & his wife Jen, four grandchildren: Jaiden, Kyndell, Jazmine, and Wyatt, five sisters: Joyce, Jean, Gloria, Melinda, and Carolyn, one brother Joe of Wellington, and a host of nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, and one sister.
As this memorial is meant to be a celebration of his life, I would like to personally thank all of you for being here, and sharing in it with us. I hope that the slideshow and memories will help sustain you as they do me. Whether it was a cookout, a family gathering, New York, Rocky Point, Mardi Gras or something as simple game of Dominos Spades or Pool, he lived his life to the full, and those he shared it with are truly blessed to have been part of it. I Love You All!!
