Funeral services for former McCurtain County resident Larry D. Cockrell, 59, Hurst, Texas, were at 1:30 p.m. July 8 at Greenwood Funeral Home, Hurst. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.

Cockrell died July 3 in Hurst after a long illness. He was born July 21, 1939, in Idabel, the son of Hugh D. and Pearl Cockrell, who preceded him in death. He was raised in Eagletown and was an Eagletown High School graduate.

Cockrell was graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1963 and earned a Doctorate from Purdue University in 1970. He was employed as a Scientist and Electrical Engineer for General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems.

He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Ridglea Country Club and the First United Methodist Church, Fort Worth. Cockrell attended the Unity Church of Northeast Tarrant County.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Rowland Cockrell, Hurst; a son, D. Andrew Cockrell, Scottsdale, Ariz.; three daughters, Lauren Cockrell, Samantha Cockrell and Arianna Cockrell, all of Hurst; a sister and brother-in-law, Loxla and Ben Moxley, Ardmore, Okla.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
