Funeral services for Mattielene Barber Hawthorne, 98, of Whigham, GA, are at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2015, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Rev. Don Prevatt will officiate. Interment will be in Hawthorne Cemetery. Mrs. Hawthorne passed away at her home in Grady County, GA, on Thursday, December 24, 2015.
Active pallbearers will be her seven grandsons.

Mrs. Hawthorne was born on April 23, 1917, in Concord, FL, to the late William Bill Barber and Maggie Stephens Barber. On November 21, 1936, she married Robert Marvin Hawthorne, who preceded her in death on November 22, 1985. She was a homemaker and a member of Magnolia Baptist Church.

Survivors include: sons, Berl Hawthorne (Audrey) of Whigham, GA, James Hawthorne (Angie) of Whigham, GA; daughters, Shirley Brookins DeWert (William) of Whigham, GA, Carolyn Lowe (Ed) of Havana, FL, Betty June Franklin (Jerry) of Eugene, OR; eleven grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; sons, Winston Hawthorne, Robert Hawthorne; son-in-law, Billy Brookins; and a grandson, Michael A. Brookins.

Memorials may be made in Mrs. Hawthorne's memory to the Hawthorne Cemetery Fund, c/o Demetrius Harrison, 64 24th Street NE, Cairo, GA 39828.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Sunday, December 27, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
