Catherine R. Vaughn (Miss Kitty), 79, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Christmas Eve. With great strength, she fought a long battle with several health issues and was ready to go home to be with her mama, other loved ones and Christ. Miss Kitty was born in Mt. Airy to the late Paul Monday and Esther Reynolds. In addition to her step father, Conrad Reynolds, she was preceded in death by her first husband Calvin B. Vaughn. Surviving members of her family include Jimmy Griffin; three children, eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Miss Kitty’s surviving children are: daughter and son-in-law, Sybil and Rick Guyer, Gastonia, NC, daughter Carol Vaughn, King, NC and son Rev. Calvin B. Vaughn, Jr. Miss Kitty’s grandchildren are Walt Guyer and wife Angela, Sarah Barone and husband Francesco, Amanda Guyer, Beth Yeh Crawford and husband Dow, Priscilla Jessup, Jessica Jessup and husband Michael Leftwich, MSgt. Joe Calvin Jessup and wife Lisa and Tommi Delayne Jessup. Her great grandchildren are Jacob Pritchard, Lily Guyer, Townes Guyer, Braeton Leftwich, Kase Leftwich, Garrett Leftwich, Makayla Jessup, McKenzie Jessup, Kaylea Talton, Kyndal Talton, Kade Talton, Kamryn Talton and Addyson Jessup. Also surviving is one sister, Margaret Hiatt, her husband Roger and their sons; two brothers Rickey Reynolds, his wife, children and grandchildren and David Reynolds and his daughter Hannah. Miss Kitty grew up in Mt. Airy and was active in sports, the school newspaper and cheerleading. After marrying, she moved to Winston Salem to work at Hanes Hosiery. She was energetic and hard working as well as the life of the party. She designed two of her homes and helped to oversee the building of them. At the age of 28 she became an inspiration to single moms as she would work two and three jobs to provide for her children. She demonstrated you can make it and survive through difficult times. She became the supervisor for the Winston Salem/Forsyth County Printing Department. Continuing her vocation as a professional printer, she was recruited by RJ Reynolds to be one of the first women in their printing department. Retiring from RJ Reynolds with a disability, she remained active for many years. She loved traveling (especially to Nashville) and shopping. She was known for all the things she bought often to only give them away. Miss Kitty loved spending time with her friends Tot Haley, Goldie Seymour and Jackie Hendrick to mention a few. She would spend hours talking about the fun times of her life with Faye Boone (her life-long friend of 56 years). You could say Miss Kitty knew how to have fun, be adventurous and make you laugh. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 29 at 6 pm and celebrate her life on Wednesday, December 30, at 11 am at Moody’s Funeral Home, 206 W Pine St, Mount Airy, NC. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. Memorial cards or flowers are welcomed or memorials can be made to the International Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia Foundation.
