Susan Gwynne Huffman Pruitt BELTON - Susan Gwynne Huffman Pruitt, 96, widow of Tolliver Wright Pruitt, Jr., died December 23, 2015, at White Oak Manor Nursing Home, Rock Hill, SC. Susan was born December 18, 1919, in Belton, SC to parents Francis Byron and W. Antonia Smith Huffman. Susan attended Anderson, SC public schools and graduated Anderson's Girl High in 1936. She studied and graduated Winthrop College in 1940. She was employed with South Carolina Department of Social Services in Anderson and Greenville Counties from 1940 to retirement in 1979. She was appointed by Governor Richard Riley to serve on the State Foster Care Review Board from 1983 to 1986. After retirement Susan was very active with Latimer Memorial Methodist Church, Belton, SC. She sang in the choir, was substitute organist/ piano player, Sunday School teacher and held office at local and district level with the United Methodist Women. She was active with the Belton Cemetery Foundation, Senior Citizens, Anderson Woman's Club, Belton Chapter of the UDC, Hudson Berry Chapter of the DAR, Meals on Wheels for 20 years working with Mrs. Lucile Mayo. Susan enjoyed traveling and visited all of North America, visited Brazil, several trips to European Countries, Australia and Russia. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Byrd Huffman Billingsley (2005) and grandson Michael Shane Pruitt (1991). She is survived by children Tolliver Wright Pruitt, III (Hilda), Indian Trail, NC, Richard Huffman Pruitt (Doris), Williamston, SC, Connie G. Pruitt Barnwell, Williamston, SC, Michael Alda Pruitt (Beth), Seneca, SC, and Susan Ellen Pruitt DeWitt (Doug), Rock Hill, SC; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be Monday ten o'clock at Latimer Memorial United Methodist Church. Funeral will be eleven o'clock at Latimer Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Roger Gramling and Bob Burris officiating. Interment will be at Belton City Cemetery. Cox Funeral Home, Belton, SC is in charge. Memorials may be made to Latimer Memorial Methodist Church, Belton, SC 29627.
