Gary D. Perkins, 56, of County Road 20, Mansfield, died Wednesday, December 23, 2015, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born January 24, 1959, in Mount Gilead, to Clyde E. and Norma Jean (Allen) Perkins, he was life-long resident of Morrow County, graduating from Northmor High School in 1977.

Gary was a dedicated businessman, serving the agricultural community for over 40 years. He grew up learning the family business by actively participating in the installation and service of grain bins and grain dryers. As the years passed, he became responsible for selling, servicing and constructing the grain bins. Later, he followed in his father’s footsteps, assuming the active role of managing Ohio Farm Systems, Inc., and then became the sole proprietor of the company upon Clyde’s retirement in 1995. Gary’s passion was his business, and he cared greatly for his employees and their families.

While the family business was a large part of Gary’s life, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his two sons. He would dress up and act silly, even close to the point of ridicule, taking the role of father to another level. He enjoyed woodworking in earlier years, establishing a company he called “Little Red’s Custom Woodworking”. He has passed his love for working with wood on to his son, Adam.

Gary enjoyed electrical work, as well as watching and cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a quiet, reserved and stubborn man, reflective some would say.

Survivors include his sons, Adam (Shelby) of Mount Gilead and Andy, also of Mount Gilead; his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Rich Worley; two nephews, their wives and children, Ross (Ashley) Linscott and Justin (Alice) Linscott; his former wife, Jane Brand, of Mansfield; his step-mother, Jeanette Perkins, of Mansfield, who was the only mother he ever knew; grandchildren, Cole, Dane, Henry and Cassidy; Aunts, Martha Jean Perkins and Barbara Perkins, numerous cousins and many wonderful friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde E. and Norma Jean Perkins and his paternal uncles, Arthur Carl Perkins and Lawrence W. Perkins.

Gary’s family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services celebrating his life will be held there at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 with Pastor Jeff Deel officiating. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery in Johnsville.
