"...a selection made by the youngster's {Christopher's} grandmother, and he was thereupon presented to a young dame a descendant of a very ancient and honorable family, then held in high esteem throughout all Switzerland. Her name was Regina Tscharner. April, the 25th, 1684 {they were married} at Worb, the bridegroom then being twenty-three and the bride nineteen years of age. Her father was the right honorable and highly respected Beat Lewis Tscharner of very ancient lineage. He had acquitted himself with considerable credit as a member of the Assembly, around 1651, and lived on his estate and vineyard in Switzerland. Beat Lewis was born on November 2d, 1617 and died in 1674 in Switzerland. He was a son of Samuel Tscharner, who was Governor in 1627 and Mayor of Chillon in 1626, and was the grandson of the well-known David Tscharner and his wife Magdalena von Diesbach."
Together Regina and Christoph had four sons and seven daughters. Through their son Christopher DeGraffenried (1691-1742) many American DeGraffenrieds claim descent. His youngest son, Ludwig, inherited the rule of Worb. Interestingly, Ludwig's relationship with his father seemed to mirror Chrisoph's with his father Anton. Christoph remained in the "old" schloss and Ludwig built the neu schloss down the hill.
Note: The grave plate of Regina Tscharner von Graffenied, was probably removed in the late 19th century from the church and has since been mounted unprotected on the northern churchyard wall and exposed to the elements . The inscription is almost impossible to read today .
All the grave plates were moved outside in 1983 with a small roof to protect them; while the von Graffenrieds were removed from their resting places and placed in storage at the University of Bern.
