Miss Edith Mae Hinton, 85, passed away Friday, December 25, 2015 at her residence. She previously lived in Madison, but lived in Neshoba County for the past six years. She was a retired colonel with U.S. Army. Among her accomplishments was working for battered women as job councelor, one of the first female line officers, worked at the Pentagon, fourth woman selected for war college, 1972-1974 Fort McClellan Brigade Commander, 1974-1977 Deputy Director WAC, Battalion Commander and received the Distinguished Service Award. Her hobbies include arts, crafts and traveling. Ms. Hinton was a member of BPW, WICS and Broadmoor Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius Milton Hinton and Birdie Breland Hinton; sister, Norma Talley; brothers, Durwood, Jerry and Fred Hinton. Survivors are two nieces and one nephew. No visitation.
