Don Rex, age 88, of Watertown, SD, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015 at Golden Living Center. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Paul Rutten officiating. Music will be furnished by the Immaculate Conception Funeral Choir accompanied by Danielle Holmquist-Holida.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the church.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Military Honors will be conducted by Codington County Post 17 of the American Legion and Frank H. Adams Post 750 of the VFW of Watertown, and South Dakota Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team.

Donald James Rex, son of John and Ida Mae (Denton) Rex was born on February 25, 1927 in Elrod, South Dakota. He grew up in the Elrod and Watertown area and graduated from Thomas High School in 1945. Donald joined the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge he attended Business College in Chicago, IL. He returned to South Dakota and opened Rex Brothers TV & Appliance with his brother, Dale.

Don married Barbara Erickson on June 6, 1972 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the couple made their home in Watertown. After Don retired, he began farming and enjoyed that for many years, along with gardening. Barbara passed away on September 30, 2008.

Don was a Life member of the American Legion and VFW, and a member of the NRA and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, bowling, reading, geese and squirrel watching, and going to coffee three times a day.

Don is survived by his adopted son, Brian Herron of Pitcher, OK; his brother, Lorraine D. (Alice) Rex of Silverdale, WA; a brother-in-law, Wayne Fisher of Shakopee, MN; one sister-in-law, Ruth Erickson of Watertown, SD; his adopted grandson, Donald Herron of Watertown; 22 nieces and nephews including, Mary Erickson and Phil Erickson of Watertown; and his special friends, Jeff Krome, Garry Shephard, and Linda Schoepp all of Watertown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; and his siblings, Wilber, Wilma Williams, Virgil, Maynard, Ethel Rex, Eileen Hayworth, Margaret Gray, Dale, and Ruth Fisher.
