After growing up in Honey Grove, Texas he graduated from East Texas State University, Commerce, Texas in 1951. He moved to Dallas to join Cullum and Boren Wholesale where he was employed for 34 years and became President in 1971. He retired in 1984 and then joined his son Larry at the James A. Giesecke Company for the next 17 years.
Don was quite the sports enthusiast. Some of his other favorite things were fishing, hunting, trips to Creed, Colorado, singing in the choir and a good meal with friends.
He was Deacon Emeritus at The Village Church – Dallas Northway, where he was a member since 1953. As a Christian mentor and man of faith, he has influenced many young men and their families through the years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence E. and Lucille (Wishard) Myers and his brother, Lt. Colonel John R. Myers.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys McKinney Myers of 67 years; son Larry Myers, fiancée Jenifer Johnson and their grandson Aiden Johnson; Niece Deborah Myers; Cousin Phyllis George; Nephew Dr. John G. Myers and their families.
The funeral will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at The Village Church – Dallas Northway, 3877 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, Texas. Private burial will be in Honey Grove, Texas.
