REV. G. W. HANKS CONDUCTS SERVICES AT HOME AT NEWPORT

Funeral rites for MRS. ARANDA ADELINE MASSEY 90 who died at her home near Newport Sunday will be held at the residence at Newport at 1 oclock Monday afternoon conducted by G. W. Hanks Baptist minister. Burial with Bettis Funeral Home of Ardmore in charge of arrangements, will be in the Lone Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Massey was the widow of J. H. Massey who died 5 years ago. They had been residents of Carter Co. since long before statehood, it is said.
Mrs. Massey was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

JEREMIAH MASSEY born 1 Jan. 1843 Pulaski County Missouri son of
YEARBY and MILLA (----------) MASSA (MASSEY) both born in Tennesse and
married by 1829 came from White County Tennesse to Franklin County
Missouri 1830. Known children of YEARBY and MILLA MASSEY were: TOM,
JOHN, NATHAN, JEREMIAH and CLARISSA.

JEREMIAH MASSEY served in the Civil War. He enlisted at Springfield
Greene County Missouri in Co. G 6 Regt. Mo. Militia which became Co. G 16
Regt. Mo. Cav. He was 5 foot 10 inches, fair complextion, blue eyes and
dark hair. JEREMIAH was mustered out at Springfield Mo. on 1 July 1865.

JEREMIAH MASSEY married ARRENDA ADALINE BOHANNON on 25 July 1865 in
Laclede County Mo. by John Anderson Sharp a Methodist Minister. ARRENDA
ADALINE BOHANNON born 18 Nov. 1847 in Wright Co. Mo. was the daughter of
ELIJAH and RACHEL (ODLE) BOHANNON. ELIJAH BOHANNON born 15 July 1812 in
White Co. Tn. son of LEWIS and LUCY (LOWRY) BOHANNON. LEWIS BOHANNON was
the son of WILLIAM and 2nd wife JUDITH (LEGG) BOHANNON who came from
Henry Co. Va. to White Co. Tn. RACHEL ODLE born 15 April 1810 was the
daughter of ENOCH ODLE married CATHERINE PRYOR 22 Aug 1799 in Greene Co.
Tn. and SARAH RAMSEY date unknown. ENOCH ODLE born 19 March 1776 in
Shenandoah Co. Va. son of Samuel and ELIZABETH (JOB) ODLE. SAMUEL ODLE
born 16 Feb 1750 son of SAMUEL and ELIZABETH (------) ODLE who were in
Shenandoah Co. Va. by 1744. ELIJAH BOHANNON'S brother WILLIAM married
MARGARET ODLE daughter of ENOCH and sister to RACHEL. ODLE is now
spelled O'DELL. The BOHANNONS with ENOCH ODEL'S family left White Co.
Tn. after 1830 and went to Macoupin Co. Ill. By 1836 they had moved into
Pulaski Co. Mo. part of which became Wright and Laclede Co. Mo.

On the wall of the courthouse in Lebanon Laclede Co. Mo. is a mural
of the home of ELIJAH and RACHEL (ODLE) BOHANNON. The house was built
about 1850 and is still standing. It is a large two story log house
standing on the point of a hill overlooking the Steins Creek valley.
Above the house there are glade rocks coming out of the hillside. The
glade is six or more feet high. A spring north and west of the house.
The point of the hill where the house is built goes far enough out into
the valley to command a beautiful view both up and down the valley. The
split log floors were sanded and the house has a fireplace.

JEREMIAH and ARRENDA ADALINE MASSEY were living near Lone Grove IT
in 1900. Next to them were NATHAN MASSEY and wife MARY, CHARLES MASSEY
and wife LAURA and ELIJAH MASSEY and wife IDA MAY. Grand-children of
WILLIAM and MARGARET BOHANNON living near the MASSEYS were: MARGARET R.
BOHANNON who married JOHN MANSFIELD, one of their daughters LELA
MANSFIELD born 12 Feb. 1890 died 13 Sept. 1901 and is buried at Newport
Cemetery, JEFFERSON DAVIS BOHANNNON who married LAURA E. McELWAIN 17 Feb.
1884 in Laclede Co. Mo., one of their sons ORVILLE BOHANNON born 2 March
1885 was killed by lightening 16 May 1903 and is buried at Lone Grove
Cemetery and LEWIS BOHANNON who married MARY McELWAIN 14 Sept. 1882 in
Laclede Co. Mo.

JEREMIAH and ARRENDA MASSEY were parents of four children who lived
to be adults. They were: RACHEL SAMANTHA, JAMES ANDERSON, ELIJAH NORRIS
and SIMON PETER MASSEY. Nine other chldren died as infants their names
and birthdates are unknown.

JAMES ANDERSON MASSEY born 25 Dec. 1868 in Laclede Co. Mo. married
MAGGIE (--------). JAMES ANDERSON died 16 Sept. 1913 and is buried at
Lone Grove Cemetery.


JEREMIAH and ARRENDA ADALINE (BOHANNON) MASSEY lived in MO., ARK.,
and Texas before coming to the Indian Territory where they spent the rest
of their lives. JEREMIAH died 9 April 1912 at Newport Ok. ARRENDA
ADALINE lived until 28 March 1937 and died at Newport Ok. They are
