Joane, bap. 30 Nov. 1577 at Ilchester, and was buried 10
March 1621/2 at Yeovilton, in the church yard of “St.
Bartholomew.” Married before 1613, William Hopkins
of Yeovilton.

Joane was the daughter of Nicholas Arnold and Alice Gully of Northover and Ilchester, Somerset. She was married about 1612 to William HOPKINS. Her two oldest children accompanied her brother William Arnold to America in 1635, and her son Thomas became a founding settler of Providence, RI, with Roger Williams, and established the Hopkins family of Rhode Island. Rhode Island's statesman, governor, and signer of the US Declaration of Independence, Stephen Hopkins, is a descendant.
