FLEET RAYHUE NEIGHBOURS, a well-known and esteemed citizen, died at his home, 921 North Market street, Saturday evening, after a short illness, 81 years of age.

He was a formerly a farmer, for many years a teacher, and at the time of his death was a member of the Board of Election Supervisors of this county.

He was born at Bloomfield, this county, May 10, 1847. Early in life the family moved to a small house with a few acres of land at the foot of the mountain, west of Yellow Springs. Gradually, over a period of years, with the help of his five growing sons, Mrs. Neighbours increased his holdings to an estate of nearly one thousand acres, including much valuable timber land. There he worked and studied, with the help of a few month's attendance at a nearby county school, for several winters, until he succeeded in obtaining a teacher's certificate. This was the beginning of his life work.

For the next 17 years he taught school at Brook Hill, now Yellow Springs, Buckeystown, Sugar Loaf Mountain and Forest Grove. He each of these schools he made an unusual record and on account of his work was appointed county superintendent of schools, in 1886. After serving in this position for one term he established a private school for training teachers, known as the Buckeystown Normal School in 1888. For a number of years it grew in importance was attended by many persons, who became teachers of county schools. He was regarded as a leading educator. After other facilities for training teachers were provided he became principal of the public school of Buckeystown and retired from active school work about ten years ago.

Since that time he served three years as one of the county auditors and for the past two years was a member of the Board of Election Supervisors. He was an active Democrat and allied his influence on the side he regarded as right in principle rather than party expediency. He was an active member of the Reformed church, mainly St. John's church, Buckeystown, and the Evangelical Reformed church, this city.

Besides his wife, Mrs. Ann L. Neighbours, he is survived by the following sons and daughters: Owen J. Neighbours, Wabash, Inc.; Mrs. C.J. Price, Hyattstown; Fleet B. Neighbours, Fall River, Mass; and Miss Mary Neighbours, at home; one brother, Roger M. Neighbours, Baltimore; and a sister, Miss Mary Neighbours, at home.

Funeral services were held at his late home; interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery; M.R. Etchison and Son were the funeral directors.
