Elmer Clinton Allanson, 91, died Thursday, December 24, 2015.

Born June 30, 1924 in West Augusta, he was a son of Willie and Lena (Hodge) Allanson.

He attended Churchville School and was a member of Elk Run Church of the Brethren. Mr. Allanson was employed as a plumber by R. J. Hanger for many years, and was a long-time cattle and turkey farmer. Together with his wife, he owned and operated Wilson's Grocery in Churchville. He also painted water towers for Adams Old Dominion Tank Company, and was a bus driver for Quick Livick in more recent years. He loved his family and his farm, and he loved life. He enjoyed coon hunting. A genuine people-person, he was a true friend to many.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth "Bettie" (Karicofe) Allanson; and a step-sister, Merle Taliaferro.

Surviving are a daughter, Doris Allanson Whitson of Churchville; a brother, Donald Allanson and wife Betty of Swoope; two step-sisters, Jean Michael of Churchville, and Carol Bruce Crum and husband Bill of Churchville; two grandchildren, Eric Whitson and wife Jodie of Churchville, and Vicky Whitson Harris and husband Wesley of Plano, Tex.; five step-children; six great-grandchildren, Tristan, Renay, Aaron and Aubrey Whitson, and Grace and Andrew Harris; and a special "sister," Wilma Obaugh of McDowell.


A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 28, 2015 in Elk Run Church of the Brethren, with the Revs. Paul Shaver and Gale Younkins officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
