Richard C. Byrd, Jr., 81, passed away at Heartland Health Care on Jan. 11, 2000. A longtime resident of Jacksonville, he is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lillie M. Byrd; daughter, Brenda J. Zipperer and husband, Art, of St. Augustine; twin sister, Emma L. Aldridge and husband, Rayford J. of Smyrna, GA; 2 grandsons, Calvin B. Browning and wife, Vicki, and Todd Dennison and wife, Brenda; 1 great grandson, Philip Dennison; and son-inlaw, Redding R. Browning. His daughter, Diane, preceded him in death July, 1999. Mr. Byrd was retired from Simmons Co. after 42 years of service. He was also employed with the City of Jacksonville for 7 years. He was a lifelong member of Nelms Masonic Lodge in Smyrna, GA, a member of Scottish Rite Shrine Temple in Jacksonville, and a member of the Disabled Veterans of Orange Park. He was a WW II Army decorated veteran. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Fri., Jan. 14, 2000, in the Chapel of TOWN & COUNTRY FUNERAL HOME, 7242 Normandy Blvd. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thurs., (TODAY) at the Funeral Home.
