Joseph E. Barton, Sr., 90, of Chatham, died December 23, 2015 at Danville Medical Center. He was born in Bedford, on January 10, 1925, son of Samuel Barton and Elizabeth Huddleston Barton. He served in the United States Army, while in France he was captured and became a prisoner of war. He worked as a manager for Westvaco Corp until his retirement. He was a member of Samuel Harris Memorial Baptist Church.
He married Lillie “Polly” Tanksley Barton, who survives. He is also survived by a son, Joseph E. Barton, Jr.(Cindy). He was predeceased by brothers, Roy Barton and Edgar Barton; sisters, Margaret Newby, Frances Thompson and Audrey Jordan.
Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
