John was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, town of Schleswig and was on the board of directors and vice president of Tri-County Co-op, Kiel, for 16 years. John enjoyed listening to and dancing to polka music, hunting, playing cards with his friends and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Evelyn; three children, Lola (Gary) Roeh, rural Kiel; Dianne Rice, New Berlin; Mark Schnell and special friend, Lisa of rural Kiel; six grandchildren; Chad Roeh and special friend, Lori; Shannan Roeh and special friend, Tony; Charles and Stephanie Schwarz, Patrick and Sara Schwarz, Kristin Schnell, Jenna Schnell and one great grandson, Taylor. He is further survived by six sisters, Helen Kaderabek, Manitowoc; Bernice Zielke, West Allis; Alice (Walter) Dudarenke, Van Dyne; Gladys (Gene) Paulson, Sheboygan; Grace (Ed) Mikalofsky, Fond du Lac; Louise (Wallace) Thiel, Fond du Lac; one brother, James (Margie) Schnell, Sheboygan; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Schnell, Menomonee Falls; Marie Schnell, Menomonee Falls; Marie Schnell, Kiel; many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and Kenneth Schnell and two brothers-in-law, Otto Kaderabek and Steve Zielke. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday, April 4, 2003 at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, town of Schleswig. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 Sixth St., Kiel, on Wednesday from 4 until 8 pm and at the church on Thursday from 9 am until the time of service.
