Clarence “Josh” Acres, 74, of the Pine Hill community, passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon, January 21,1993 at his home. He was the son of the late Joshua Acres and the late Julia Marcum Acres and was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby D. Pennington Acres; one infant daughter; three half-brothers, Gorman Pennington, Arlie Acres, and Emmitt Acres; and two half-sisters, Edna Slaven and Stella Acres. He was a retired coal miner and was employed for over nine years as a guard with Arvin industries in Oneida. He attended the Low Gap Baptist Church. Mr. Acres is survived by two sons, Delmus Acres of the Pine Hill community, and Homer (Pete) Acres of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, at the West-Murley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James O. Laxton officiating. The Pentecost Baptist Church Choir sang. Burial was in the Pennington Cemetery in the Pine Hill community. Serving as pallbearers were: Elvin Reagan, Jimmy Joe Pennington, Denzil Pennington, Robert Jeffers, Dennis Goodman, Ronnie Sexton, Ray Reagan, and John Newport.
