Cynthia Carol Compton, 68, of Winfield, passed away April 27, 2014.

Cynthia was born May 27, 1945, in Winfield, the only child of Theodore S. and Carol V. Compton. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1963 and from Southwestern College in 1969. From there, Cynthia taught middle school music for the Wichita Falls, Texas, School District until her retirement in 2008.

Cynthia was a bundle of love and life and talent, and she blessed untold numbers of young lives beyond the ones we know and could count. She was an accomplished musician on the piano and viola. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Winfield and performed with the Wichita Falls Symphony. She played for the Prairie View United Methodist Church. She worked for many years playing and directing productions at the Backdoor and the Horsefeathers and Applesauce Summer Theatre. She gave private lessons to hundreds of students, coaching them for recitals and programs and encouraging them along their way.

In recent years, Cynthia played for the Southwestern College musical theatre ensemble twice a week. She also was an accompanist for private student lessons at Southwestern and for a choir in Wellington. Music was her life, and sharing it with others by accompanying them was most meaningful.

Cynthia had a God given gift with regard to being able to play any piece of music, and do so in the key or style that best suited the venue she was performing for or the person she was accompanying. Sharing that talent meant more to her than her own well being. This past Easter Sunday, after being hospitalized, she was at the Prairie View Church service and performed the “Hallelujah Chorus.” Making beautiful music was Cynthia’s greatest passion. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed!

Cynthia is survived by cousins, including Richard and Diane Elder, Julie Hilding, Janice Rothlauf, Barbara Bradburn, Deborah and Wade Potter, and Donald and Lynn Elder, and one aunt, Thelma Elder.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church.

Cremation has been effected.

Arrangements were by Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home.
