Walker and Nettie Mae Warren. He resided in Steele, Mo., until January 1950, when he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the military from 1950-1953 and fought in the Korean War in 1951. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for exemplary service. While on leave from the army in December 1951, he met Betty Ruth Smith, where after a whirlwind romance of two weeks, they eloped. Mr. Walker was a farmer for 17 years in Steele where he grew cotton, wheat and soy beans. He loved driving tractors and working the land. He reminisced often of his farming days in later years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On Dec. 31, 1970, he began a new chapter in his life when he moved his family to Arizona and resided there until his death. During the 45 years in Arizona, he was an owner/operator of Walker, LLC Trucking. He retired in 2005. During his retirement years, he enjoyed gardening, wood working, fishing, camping and spending time with his family.
