He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elsie Lackey Good, one daughter, Eddythe Lynn Good Ashe and husband Randall of Brevard, one granddaughter, Miranda Ashe Owen.
Edward served in the United States Army in World War II. During his tour of duty he was stationed in Japan and saw the devastating results of the atom bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Upon returning home he met and married the love of his life, Elsie. He worked for his Great Grandfather, M.L. Good in the Sarah Good hosiery mill. Seeking to make a better way of life for his family, he went to Miami, Florida to attend the Emory Riddle School of Aeronautics to become an aircraft mechanic. After four years he moved back to his beloved mountains of North Carolina, where he worked at the Sevier plant of The American Thread Company. He worked his way up from sweeping floors to Cost Accountant. He received a promotion and was transferred to the Rosman plant in 1967. After seventeen years with the thread plant he and his wife moved back to Marion and opened Elsie’s Florist. Edward was the account and delivery man for the florist while Elsie was the head floral designer until he and Elsie retired. Edward was both analytical and artistic. He loved to paint and sketch. He was a Veteran, a Mason, a devout Christian, a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all his family and friends.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Tore’s Home for the excellent, loving care they provided, the staff of Transylvania Regional Hospital for their excellent care, and a special thank you to Dr. Lana Riemann for helping to make his last days more comfortable and for the special care to his family.
