Son of Edward S. Jewell and Mary Ann Markham..

Death of James E. Jewell

The Signal regrets exceedingly to be compelled to record the death of James E. Jewell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Jewell, formerly of Cambridge, in this county. His death occurred at Salt Lake City some time during the night Friday, and he was buried at that place Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Jewell had been in the forestry service for many years, with headquarters at Afton, Wyo., and had only recently resigned and gone to Salt Lake. He was supposed to be in the best of health and the news of his taking away was a shock to his relatives and friends. His death is supposed to have been caused by heart trouble as he was apparently well and in good spirits when he retired Friday night. Saturday morning the maid entered his room for the purpose of righting it up when she found him lying on his side with his face resting on his hand, and as he was apparently sleeping soundly she withdrew. As he had not risen at 2 o'clock in the afternoon she again went to the room and when she found him in exactly the same position she approached the bed and discovered that he had passed away.

The members of the family were at once notified and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Jewell, his sister, Mrs. Maud Brown, and brother, Earl Jewell, at once started from California to Salt Lake. There they were met by Mrs. Harry Coon and Fred Jewell, sister and brother, of Cambridge. There were also present at the funeral, Robert Reavis of Midvale and Mrs. Fred Cool of Council, who were in Salt Lake at the time.

James Jewell grew to manhood in Washington county and was among the most sterling of the young citizenship of the county. He had a host of friends, particularly in the Northern part of the county, who will join with The Signal in extending heartfelt sympathy with the bereaved members of the family.
