"Lawrence E. SANDS, a gentleman well known in the financial circles of Wheeling, is cashier of the National Exchange Bank of Wheeling. He was born at Fairmont, West Virginia, August 4, 1859, and is a son of J. E. Sands, who has been cashier of the First National Bank of Fairmont since 1856.
Lawrence E. Sands was reared in Fairmont and received his education in the public schools of that town. In 1876 he entered the First National Bank of Fairmont as clerk, and in 1880 came to
Wheeling. He served in various capacities with the National Bank of West Virginia at Wheeling until 1895, when he was elected cashier of the Exchange Bank of Wheeling, which on January 1, 1899, was converted into the National Exchange Bank of Wheeling. Having devoted his entire business career to the banking business, he is
familiar with it in all its details, and makes an excellent official."
