Son of Wm B. J. Good & Mary Elizabeth Whiteside; husband of Jessie L. Eppes; father of four children. He graduated from Erskine College (Due West, SC) and then attended the University of Kentucky Medical College for a year before leaving to pursue a business career. He was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church (Rock Hill, SC) and an excellent businessman, founding first a large farm supply (horses, feed, fertilizer, tractors), then Nash, Packard, Oldsmobile, and Cadillac automobile dealerships, several farms, and other enterprises. After health challenges, he retired in 1944 and spent much of his time at his farm at Adams Run and his house on Edisto Island. He was a Mason, a Rotarian, a Shriner, and a trustee of the local school system; his obituary described him as "quiet and unassuming".
