Thomas F. Daugherty died November 14, 2011 at the age of 83 surrounded by his family after battling cancer for several months.

Born September 18, 1928 in Akron, Ohio, Tom had been a lifetime member of the Akron community, and was a student of South High graduating with the class of 1947. He served in the Army and did one tour of active duty in the Korean War, before returning home and completing a BS in Business Administration from Akron University in 1959. Tom worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber for 40 years and retired in 1987, but his real love was sports. He started his coaching at age 18 with the CYO in Akron and later coached and served as the founding Athletic Director for St. Francis de Sales, where he spent nearly 25 years coaching football, basketball, baseball and softball. Tom was active with sports at Goodyear and went on to coach other city softball teams, including women's teams, and then coached and played in the Akron Silver league for over 20 years. He was active throughout his life and was a long-time member of the Portage Lakes Fitness center and a member of the American Legion Post 566.

Tom was preceded in death by his daughter, Bridget (age 16) and six infants who died at birth - Michael, Donna, Trudy, Theresa, Amy and Brian. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathleen; and children, Lisa Iacobellis of Pickerington; Ohio, Kevin of Livermore, Calif., Sean of Akron, Mary (Randy) Ebert of Denver, Colo., and Colleen (James) Donahue of Bladensburg, Ohio. Tom is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jason and Erin Daugherty; Ann and Sara Iacobellis; Sean Grisak; Bridget, Austin and Aiden Ebert; and Katie Donahue.
