Andrew Jackson Summers was born in Jefferson County Illinois in 1833. He was the son of John and Virginia [Watson] Summers. His father John Summers, was born in Scotland and mother was born in Virginia. Andrews father came to America and settled in Shawneetown Il, along the Ohio River. A man named Thomas Tanstall came to Shawneetown and ask John Summers to come back with him to run a Tread-Mill in Jefferson County Il, which was near the Farm of Dr.John M.D. and Francis [Pace] Watson John agreed to come and work. He later met a daughter of Dr. John and Francis Watson. Her name was Virginia Watson. They married June 3, 1824 in Jefferson County Il. They started their own Mill, East of Mt. Vernon Il. Their home was considered the most hospitable place in all the County.[ Stated in the Wall's History Of Jefferson County Il.] Andrew grew up with several siblings, namely John William, Francis Ann, Margaret, Warner, Thomas Jefferson, Dewitt Clinton and Martha Eldora Summers. Andrew met and married a woman named Susan piety Hutchison on July 26 1854, in Jefferson County. She was the daughter of William Henry and jane [Williams] Hutchison. William being born in South Carolina and Jane was born in North Carolina. William was one half Cherokee Indian. Andrew and Susan had the following children. Luther J. Summers born Aug 2 1855, Olivia Henrietta Summers born April 25 1857, Ruth Ann Summers born April 4 1859, Flora Bernice Summers born Dec. 5 1860. and last was Alice Andrew Summers born Jan. 31 1863. All were born in Jefferson Co. Il. Andrew died at a early age. He was 29 years old. His death was on May 28 1862. Administration Papers were drawn up on May 29 1862 by his father in Law, William Hutchison, Susan's father in Jefferson Co. Il. Cause of death is not known. Susan later married James Brown and had several more children.
