James F. Sterling, 86, of Hemet, CA went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 5, 2015. He was born in Pocola, Oklahoma, on October 1, 1929 to James Aaron Sterling and Jossie Faye Sterling.

James was raised in San Pedro, California and graduated from San Pedro High School. While attending San Pedro High School, James played catcher for the school’s baseball team. His love for the game continued for the rest of his life.

James proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was wounded in combat and received the Purple Heart.

His professional career was spent in avionics. He was a skilled avionics technician for 41 years in Long Beach, Oxnard and Camarillo, California. Clients had such a strong confidence in his skill set that they would request him to work on their planes. He retired in 1993 and he and his wife moved to Hemet.

James was also a devout Christian. He served as a deacon in his church in Downey and Oxnard. In 1993, he began attending and serving at the First Southern Baptist Church of Hemet.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Living Hope (First Southern) Baptist Church, P.O. Box 2150, Hemet, CA 92546.
