Gerald Charles Hopkins, 74 of Mechanicsburg and a former resident of Hershey for over 28 years died Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born December 12, 1937 in Lansing, MI he was the son of the late Cecil Hopkins and Julia (Siwek) Barney.

Jerry served his country in the US Army from 1955-1958 before entering college. Jerry graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University. Jerry retired as President of USTAAD Systems Inc. in Harrisburg after 15 years of dedicated service. He was a former employee of Dauphin Electrical Supplies Company in Harrisburg for over 15 years and Square D Company for 12 years.

He was a member of the Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church where he served as an usher and Sunday school teacher, and a former member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Hershey where he served as Senior Warden of the Vestry, Lay Eucharist Minister, Chalice Bearer, Lay Reader, Sunday school teacher and was a beloved bass singer in the church choir. Jerry was also a member of Range End Golf Club, the National Model Railroaders Association, served as Treasurer of the Witney Ridge Home Owners Association and enjoyed building Legos with his grandchildren. His other hobbies included wood working, gardening and he was a loyal Detroit sports fan avidly following the Red Wings and Tigers.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife Gail (Polster) Hopkins, three children Eric Hopkins wife Diana and their children Gabriella and Sofia of Los Angeles, CA; Stephanie Cavanagh husband Denis and their children Charlie and Will of Fairfax, VA; Kelly Hoffmann husband Drew and their children Ally, David and Ethan of West Chester, PA; a sister Carolyn Bromer and husband Mike of Middleville, MI; a brother Edward Hopkins and wife Jan of Sand Lake, MI and a half brother Greg Barney of Grand Rapids, MI. Jerry was preceded in death by his brother Dennis Hopkins.

Memorial services will be held at Mechanicsburg Brethren in Christ Church, 1050 South York Street, Mechanicsburg on Friday, August 3rd at 3:30 PM with a time of food and fellowship following the service at Range End Golf Club, 303 Golf Club Avenue, Dillsburg, PA 17019.
