Ray S. Harshbarger, Topeka Magician, Dies

Ray S. Harshbarger, 51, widely known Topeka magician, died Thursday in a Topeka hospital.

He was born July 24, 1903, in Topeka and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Harshbarger. His father was a member of the Washburn University faculty many years.

He was graduated from Washburn University in 1929. Later he toured the United States as a professional magician. In recent years, he entertained many local groups with his tricks of magic, but since May, 1943, he had been utilization officer at the Supply Depot.

He was a member of the American Legion, Siloam Lodge No. 225, A.F.& A.M., Scottish Rite bodies, Silent Knights, Icabod Club, Society of American Magicians, Academy of Magic Arts and Sciences and the International Brotherhood of Magicians.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rachel Harshbarger, of the home, 912 Lane; a brother, Eugene L. Harshbarger, Houston, Texas; two nieces and two nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
