Nettie and her husband, George Baker, did not have children of their own. Their home was however, filled with young people. They had one adopted son, Alonzo Spears who was born Dec 1880, and were parental guardians to George's nieces and nephews. Alonzo married Cordelia "Delia" Dykeman, daughter of Martin and Lucy Dykeman. To their family the young couple added four Children; Doris, Margery, Donald and Helen. Alonzo passed away January 23, 1919.

"Mrs. Nettie Baker of Hmmondsport, R. D. 4, 73 years of age, died at the Bath Hospital, July 17th, after an illness of four years. Mrs. Baker was the widow of George Baker who died fifteen years ago.
Mrs. Baker was born at Altay in 1861, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel [and Angeline] Teller. For the past eleven years she had made her home near Wayne with a nephew, Edward Baker, who is her survivor. Mrs. Baker was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 o'clock at the Bond Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Wayne Baptist cemetery. The Rev. Lobdell, pastor of the Methodist Church at Wayne will officiate." - The Evening Ledger, Fri, Jul 19, 1935
