Helen Snow Schwendiman died Saturday, February 16, 2002. She was born in Salt Lake City, UT Oct 17, 1915. She was the daughter of Dr. Perry Gardner Snow and Ethel Smith.

She attended LDS High School until it closed after which she graduated from East High School. She graduated from the University of Utah with a BA in English in 1937.

Helen taught high school at Sugar-Salem High School in Sugar City, ID and at Murray High School in Murray, UT. She married Glenn Schwendiman of Newdale, ID Aug 4, 1939 in the Salt Lake Temple. They became the parents of five children. One son, David Snow, predeceased her.

Those surviving are her husband, Glenn; and her children, John Snow, Sandy, UT, Dwight Perry, Rochester, NY, Stephen Glenn, Salt Lake City, UT, Sue Emma, Chevy Chase, MD; and a sister, Barbara Snow Sheets, Flagstaff, AZ. She has 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In 1943, she and her husband moved to Freeport, IL where they lived 49 years before returning to Salt Lake in 1992. She helped pioneer the establishment of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. She served as president of the North Illinois District Relief Society; counselor in the Northern States Mission Relief Society, 1961-1963; Northern States Mission Primary President, 1963-1966; Blackhawk District Primary President; and Primary President of the Beloit Wisconsin Stake.

In addition to her activities as a homemaker and mother, she was a civic and cultural leader of the community where she lived. She served as president of the Stephenson County Historical Society, 1958-60, and continued as a board member; president of the Freeport Womans Club, 1964-66, and continued on the Board of Directors; Den Mother for Cub Scouts, eight years; 4-H leader, 1960-64; Brownie and Girls Scout leader, Green Hills Girl Scout Council; Regent of Elder William Brewster Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, three terms; President of Union School PTA, 1951-52; President of the Parents and Teachers Association Council, 1954-55; President of the Freeport High School PTA; President of the Blackhawk PTA; President of the Adult Education Council, 1955-56; President of the Freeport Civic Garden Club, three terms; Director of the Emergency Welfare Services of the City of Freeport, Civil Defense, 1954-66; Vice Chairman of the Stephenson County Republican Woman's Club;member Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

The funeral will be in the Winder 6th Ward Chapel, 4366 S. 1500 E, 11 a.m., Wed. Feb 20, 2002.
