Carl Joseph Schneider, 84, of Red Wing, died Friday, December 18, 2015 at his home. He was born in 1931 in Morrison County, Swan River Township to Henry and Mary (Slinger) Schneider. He grew up in Swan River Township and farmed there with his father and brothers until 1948. He was then a hired man for the Molitar farm in Miesville where he met his future “first” wife, Edna Mae Williamson. He then went on to work for Fred Bauer until 1953 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served with the 27th Combat Engineers until his honorable discharge in 1955. He and Edna married in October of 1955 in Guardian Angels Church in Hastings. He went on to work for Kimmes Construction for 11 years where they lived in trailer homes (an 8x30 and a 10x50). Carl then worked for Meyer Industries for 31 years, until his retirement. While with Meyer he bought a home in Hastings and spent a brief period in Hazleton, Pennsylvania before moving to Red Wing. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph where he was also an usher, the KC Council #1223, the Leo C. Peterson, American Legion, Post #54 and the Frontenac Sportsmen’s club. He enjoyed watching Westerns, playing cards, hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, bowling, wine making and mowing lawns.
Carl is survived by three daughters, Nancy (Barney) Flynn of Rochelle, Ill., Joanne Schneider of Colfax, Wisc., Carol (Rob) Hoeft of Frontenac; two sons, Tom (Kristi Carrington) Schneider of Red Wing and John (Rhonda Taylor) Schneider of Menomonie, Wisc.; brothers, Herb Schneider of Little Falls and Gerald (Jerry) Schneider of Swanville; sister, Marie (Mark) Zehowski of Little Falls; nine grandsons, Adam, Greg, Mark and Steve Flynn, Andrew, Charles and Jason Hoeft, Jonathan Schneider and Derek Borchardt; four great-grandchildren, Ross and Cooper Borchardt and Kaylee Mae and Mason Flynn; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and godchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Edna; one granddaughter, Danielle Schneider; brothers, Donald, Jerome, Arnold, Leo and Andrew; sisters, Irene Prokott and Rita Albrecht; and his parents.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
