Thursday, July 27, 2006 marked the completion of the life of Alida Beckstrom Jaeger Ellingson, 90. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Andrew and Frida Beckstrom of Umea, Sweden. Married Arthur R. Jaeger (d. 1972) in 1938. Married Bernie "Shorty" Ellingson (d. 1996) in 1974.
In Tacoma, Washington, Alida performed her patriotic duty as "Rosie the Riveter" at Todd Shipyards during World War II. Earned a Certificate of Tailoring from NIJC. Owned and operated a tailoring business, creating custom wedding gowns, suits and uniforms. Member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Eagles, Elks and the VFW. Enjoyed gardening, traveling, dancing, feeding the birds, and fishing. Admired for her compassion toward others, jokes she told, hours spent cooking feasts and decorating the house of every holiday.
Her children: Jim "Art" and Carol Jaeger, John Jaeger, Joan Jeager and Wes Just, Larry and Beth Jaeger, David and Laurie Jaeger; brother, Victor (Ruth) Beckstrom; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren survive.
