Kathleen Loraine Merck, 85, Minot, formerly of Norwich, died Sunday, December 20, 2015, at a Ryder adult foster care home.

Kathleen Loraine Schiff was born on July 6th, 1930 in Rugby, ND to John and Theresa Schiff. She was raised on a farm near Norwich, ND where she attended high school and graduated in 1948.

Following high school, Kathleen attended Minot Teachers College. She married Fred Merck on June 4th, 1951. Kathleen was a loving mother, grandma, and friend to many. She worked for First National Bank, Sears, Fountain of Crafts and retired from Herberger’s in 1995.

Kathleen was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church and the Knights of Columbus. She loved gardening and was very proud of a “best garden” award she won. Kathleen was very artistic and loved to dabble in many of the arts.

Her loving family includes: Sons, Kevin (Vicki) Merck, Minot, ND; Craig (Joyce) Merck, Lincoln, NE; Leon Merck, Grand Forks, ND; and Daughter, Diane (Terry) Sullivan, Eagan, MN; 8 grandchildren: Lawrance (Destiny) Merck, Lori Merck, Gene Merck, Michele Sullivan, Christina Sullivan, Kelsey Merck, Sonia Merck and Stacey Merck; 4 great-grandchildren; Sisters, Madeline Miller, Janice (Bruce) Fuhrman, Barbara (Wayne) Kemble; Brother; John (Bev) Schiff; sisters-in-law, Eva Pinchero, Detroit, Mich., Maryann Burckhard, Towner, Ida (Tony) Lauinger, Minot, Agnes Traiser, Minot, Angela (Emanuel) Klein, Minot, Ardyth Merck, Karlsruhe, Regina (Dan) Feist, Minot, Valeria Nystrom, Fargo, Cecilia Merck, Minot, Jean Merck, Minot, and Beatrice Merck, Minot, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
