Her death certificate says she was the daughter of Thomas Creath and Amy Sardner. However, when she married widower Roy Allan Adams on 25 August 1936 at Woodstock, Carleton, New Brunswick, Canada, it lists her mother as Elizabeth Diamond. Next to Lillian's name is the word (adopted).

Thanks to Nora Davis Cook for more of Lillian's story: Lillian (Lily) was born in Birmingham, England, the only child of Frederick Richard Gardener and Lily Kirby. When her father remarried, after being wounded in the war, the stepmother was unwilling to accept Lily. The little girl was admitted to Middlemore Home before being sent to New Brunswick as a British Home Child in 1923. The family that took her in considered her to be adopted. Their names were Thomas and Elizabeth (Diamond) Creath of Newburg, NB.
