Thomas E. Rice, 83, of 13860 Oakview Avenue, Meadville, died Thursday, October 18, 2001, at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown. He was born in Meadville, September 22, 1918, a son of Edward S. and Eleanor Thompson Rice. He married Mary Doran, who preceded him in death September 17, 1970. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he worked at Meadville Post Office as a clerk and in the maintenance department of Allegheny College. He was a member of St.Brigid Roman Catholic Church, Meadville, its Holy Name Society and served as an usher. He was a member of Elks Lodge 219, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, M.P. Davis Hose 4. West Mead 2 Volunteer Fire Department and Knights of Columbus, 381. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. Survivors include two nieces, Beverly McAndle and Connie Smock; and two nephews, Robert E. and John R, Garbark. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Garbark, and an infant twin brother. Calling hours are today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Roofner-Collins Funeral Home, Meadville, with a scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Brigid Church. Burial will be in St. Brigid Cemetery with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006.
