CEDAR RAPIDS — Janet E. Arnold, 74, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, at the Boone County Health Center in Albion.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Brian Ketelsen officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Sunset Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Levander Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
Janet Ellen Arnold, the daughter of Frank and Leitha (Eschliman) Dutcher, was born Oct. 4, 1941, at Wolbach. She was confirmed in her faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia in 1955. Janet attended elementary country school in the Scotia area and graduated from Scotia High School in 1959.
On Oct. 25, 1959, Janet was united in marriage to Dewayne “Ben” Edmund Arnold at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. The couple lived in various towns around Nebraska before settling in Cedar Rapids in 1965. Janet worked as a homemaker, raising the couple’s children and later opened her own upholstery shop in Cedar Rapids known as Jani’s Upholstery. She also worked at the Cedar Rapids swimming pool and grocery store, and as a cook for Cedar Rapids Public School.
Janet became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids in 1975 and was also a member of the local Bunco Club. She was known throughout for being an awesome cook as well as always baby-sitting kids for various families around the area. She will also be remembered as being a big fan of Eeyore from Winnie-the-Pooh.
Janet is survived by six children and their spouses: Karen Arnold of Grand Island, Klint and Tammy Arnold of Pierce, Kip Arnold of Norfolk, Kory Arnold of Cedar Rapids, Kelle and Alan Wilkins of Tampa, Fla., and Kandee and Ed Hanzel of Columbus; a daughter-in-law, Diane Arnold of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Bev Dutcher of Scotia; and a sister and brother-in-law, Dorthy and Alan Bredthawer of Cherokee, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dewayne; two sons, Kurt Arnold and Keith Arnold; and a sister, Ila Douthit.
