Prime Minister of Gabon. Mebiame served as Prime Minister of Gabon from 1975 to 1990. His early political career saw him serve as inspector of federal police and then commissioner of police. From 1968 to 1975, when the position was abolished, Mebiame served as Vice President of Gabon under President Omar Bongo, a close associate. In 1975 he was appointed prime minister when the position of vice president was abolished and served in this position until 1990. During the early 1990s Mebiame joined the opposition to the government, but he remained friends with President Bongo who eventually appointed him to a key government position in 2008. Mebiame lost his position the following year when new President Ali Bongo Ondimba re-formed the government.
