He left for the Army at the age of eighteen and served proudly in The Korean War. When he returned, he met the love of his life, Elaine Baptista. They were married on December 17, 1955. They spent sixty wonderful years together. They loved to travel around the world on many fantastic adventures.
He worked in the hardwood flooring trade for fifty-eight years and was the owner of Bill Howard Floor Company, Inc. for forty-six years. He was a true craftsman and loved meeting and talking to all of his customers. He prided himself in being an honest, hardworking man.
He was a Castro Valley Moose and Fremont Elks member. He enjoyed camping and belonged to two RV Clubs, The Roving Big Horns and The 2121 Club. He loved fishing and snowmobiling. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his family, playing cards, eating and having many laughs together.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Elaine; son, Bob (Nancy); daughter, Denise (Gus); five grandchildren, Angie (John), Josh, Krystal (Erik), Justin, Kandee; two step grandchildren, Nathan and Serena; and three great grandkids Lexi, Tyler, and Jayden; by his brother in law, Gene Ross (Maggie); four nephews and nieces including three God children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elsie Howard and his sister, Pat Ross. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Monday, December 21, 2015 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., with service at 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Jess C. Spencer Mortuary, 21228 Redwood Road, Castro Valley, California 94546.
Burial will be on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32053 West McCabe Road. Santa Nella, California 95322.
