A Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2015 prior to the graveside service at Schilling Funeral Home. A Graveside Service honoring his life will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at Dodge Grove Cemetery with Reverend Kevin Wolfe officiating.
Steven was born on September 26, 1945 in Mattoon, IL the son of Oral Lynn and Dorothy Louise (Chaney) Shaw.
Survivors include his cousins, Robert Morris Chaney Jr., Marsha Epperson, Debra Howard, James Franklin Chaney and Jean Fillmen; dear friends, Jill and Randy Adkins, Ann Russell and Gary Cadwell. Steven was preceded in death by his parents.
In his youth, Steven enjoyed Boy Scouts and Explorer activities. He served honorably in the United States Army. Steven taught Business at Cowden-Herrick High School for 38 years. While teaching, he spent his summers in Cripple Creek, CO. After retirement, Steven moved to Colorado and worked at a gold mine for his dear friend Jim Watson and was also an active member of the Cripple Creek Fire Department Auxiliary. Steven led a Christian life and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Rotary Club.
