Decenber 8, 2015 - William Gary Powell was born Dec. 21, 1934 in Newport News, VA. Passed away Dec. 8, 2015 at Riverside Hospital Newport News, VA. He was affectionately known as Bill and Billy by his family and Dollar Bill by friends at the Moose and American Legion
He now joins his son Gary Lee Powell, parents H. A. and Carlie Gravett Powell, brothers Edwin M., Walter B., Paul B. Powell, and sisters Kathleen P. Williams Ledford, Louise P. Butler and Dorothy P. Baker and in-laws A. D. and Mary Banich Strayer

He graduated from Newport News High School in 1954. Served in the U. S. Air Force for 4 active and 4 inactive years from1954 -1962. He worked for Hastings-Raydist Inc., Teledyne and Brown Engineering from Apr.1958 until retired Aug. 1993. Worked at Atlantic Self Storage from 1994 until Jan 2001.
He enjoyed bowling at Circle Lanes in the late 1960’s with his co-workers on a league and being with family, friends and staying home
