Daughter of Moses and Sarah Hill Sherrill.

Married Martha Ann "Matt" Britnell in June 1885. He was 40 years old.
"Aunt Matt" was a school teacher, 1st, in a two teacher school at Belgreen. Later came to Duncan Creek, met "Jack" James who lived near Rock Creek. (don't think she taught at Rock Creek). They were married and ran the Post Office there in Rock Creek for $13.45 per year.
10-11 children were born to this union, with 2 sets of twins. Elmer and Jennie died young.
"Uncle Jack" died young, leaving his wife with 8-9 children ages 1 thru 16. On Jan. 03,1903 she moved to East Florence. She is buried in Florence, AL.
Uncle Jack and Aunt Matt Donated the land for the Church and Cemetery at Rock Creek.
He was a member of Rock Creek Church of Christ, being baptized on July 14, 1869.

He was the son of Thomas A. and Mary "Polly" Bonds James.
Some of his siblings were: Elias Walter, Enoch Jimmy, Elizabeth, Andrew, Thomas, and Mary James.

He enslistd in 1862 Lauderdale, Co., Ala.
