Sarah Ann Gooden was actually Sarah Ann Goodwin. She and her siblings were orphaned about 1845 and she and her siblings were farmed out to the father's brothers. Sarah Ann and one of her brothers used the corrupted surname Gooden, neither could read or write. The Goodwin family owned a lumber mill in St Clair county, Alabama. Her husband John Robert Pesnell also ran a lumber mill with his father William Henry Pesnell in Cleburne county, Alabama.
